Answered Prayer #1777

Answered Prayer #1777

After 5 years of marriage my husband and I thought it was time to start a family as we always saw ourselves with children. This didn’t quite go to plan. After a few years of trying we visited our doctor and after many visits he referred us to a fertility clinic. We went through many tests, which was a gruelling ordeal for both of us. It was an emotional rollercoaster. Through this time a group of people in our church and elsewhere were praying. One friend gave me a mustard seed and a badge with baby feet. She told me all I needed was faith that size and God would give us the desires of our hearts. I really believed God wanted us to have a child and specifically my husband to be a dad. In December 2003 after nearly 5 years of trying for a baby, the consultant finally told us that we would not be able to have children naturally. Although I wasn’t surprised the pain of it was something difficult to put into words. My husband was affected so much he was unable to talk about it for a while. Telling family and friends was heart breaking. When we had processed the news a bit the consultant offered us two options. The first a process called ICSI (similar to IVF but more involved), the second adoption. We didn’t feel that we could cope emotionally with ICSI but didn’t rule out adoption. I still believed that God could do something despite the consultants evidence. The whole time people were being persistent in prayer for us. In February 2004 I visited the doctor as I was feeling unwell. I described my symptoms and she asked if I could be pregnant. I felt like yelling “have you read my notes !” but managed to resist. She sent me home to do a test which was the toughest thing to be told. I couldn’t even look at the test when I’d done it but my husband did. To our shock I was pregnant. The tears of joy and relief that were shed will never be forgotten. God had been faithful, just as He was to Abraham and Sarah in Genesis chapter 17, fulfilled in Genesis chapter 21 verse 2 “Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.” In November 2004 my son was born, not in my husband’s old age fortunately but as God has promised. He is an amazing blessing and a true miracle. The whole experience has taught us to persevere in prayer and hold on to God’s promises. He also showed us how key it is to have friends to walk the journey with you, we couldn’t have done it without them. Matthew 19:26 says “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible”. We can certainly agree with that.
